Medema With No Words
It is not very often that I even want to do a project that doesn’t involve singing.
That’s a bit strange because I always thought of myself as a pianist through most
of high-school and college. Only later did I begin to think of myself as a singer.
Now I’m always singing, with a few rare exceptions.
In the 80s, I recorded two interesting projects that were strictly instrumental.
I want to make those available to you now for downloading. The first of those is
called "November Tomatoes"
It is almost entirely a piano project recorded in my living room. Like a lot of
my music, it is stylistically diverse, moving from jazz to classical textures and
everywhere in-between. Each piece is a somewhat lengthy musical journey a bit like
walking down a road with lots of interesting scenery along the way. The title of
the album comes from the fact that the tune "November Tomatoes" was composed a very
long time ago when I was a young music student. When I lived in New Jersey, we planted
some tomatoes along the side of the house which didn’t come up until the first of
November. Those late tomatoes are like this tune waiting and waiting to find a place
in the world.
The other instrumental album is called "One Good Tune Deserves Another".
If you know the music of Manheim Steamroller, there would be some similarity here.
Light jazz, lots of synth sounds, imitating fiddles and flutes and such. I find
this music very pleasant as background music to put on while you are doing something
else. I don’t say that easily because I don’t do background music very well, but this
stuff works. There are some recent instrumental collections which you can find by
going to www.d365.org but these two are the ones that I want to introduce you to right now.
I hope you find them a delight to hear over and over again.
