In 1985 Ken Medema launched Brier Patch Music, a small independent
recording, publishing, and performance-booking company named after
Brer Rabbit's home in the legendary Uncle Remus stories.
"Brer Rabbit lived in a place not comfortable for anyone else,"
Medema says, "and we have decided to follow him there."
Though blind from birth, Ken has demonstrated his extraordinary
musical vision to a growing number of loyal fans across the nation
and around the world. Invariably, his audiences reward Ken's final
encore with enthusiastic applause and standing ovations.

Ken has been singing over 32 years in every venue imaginable for
50 - 50,000 people, from churches to conventions to colleges to
corporations, Ken has always custom designed an event for every
occasion. Using his gift of improvisation, Ken hears with his heart,
stories from people or themes from events or speeches and sings the
stories back to audiences of all ages.
At home in San Francisco with his wife
Jane, they spend their time reading books, watching movies (yes Ken is
an avid movie goer) and delighting in their grandchildren,
Charlotte and Henry. |

Beverly

Beverly is the traveling companion, sound person and visual navigator with Ken
almost 200 days a year. Her background as a producer music director
and event planner come in handy for the various types of venues she finds
herself now. Although she is a trained organist the sound board has
become her instrument of choice.
When home with David they enjoy quiet evenings at home and plenty of playtimes with
their grandchildren.

Dave
-
Dave, the backbone of Ken Medema Music spends much of his time e-mailing
clients about details of booking an event, travel arrangements and logistics
and discovering individual needs and preferences in designing a concert or
appearance for Ken. Dave is also responsible for designing and producing all
the publicity, graphic needs, and web information to keep Ken visible.
Dave carves out moments with the grandchildren who visit the office when
they are not at school and is the friendly caring voice you hear when
actually calling on the phone for a booking.

Janel

Janel is the bookkeeper, and positive thinker of the crew. She always says, "Everything happens for a reason---so adjust" When confronted with a difficulty, she always reminds us to be thankful, that we have our health! Besides doing the billing for all our events she tries to keep all the currency going in and out at the right frequency. She also works with her husband, a builder, and designs custom homes from the interior to the exterior. She is the mother of four increasingly active children from elementary age to college.

Our most recent staff member is Joshua.
He is the new webmaster, keeping the complete site up to date.
He has a great eye and a fast mind and happens to be the 16 year old grandson of Dave and Bev Vander Molen.
If you have Ken's Christmas project, he was the small child's voice at the beginning of the album saying,
"And a little child, shall lead them..." Needless to say, he is still leading us,
but not as a small child since he is nearly 6 feet tall!
